“Gears of War” has been waning in popularity as each installment came out, finally ending with the series prequel, “Gears of War: Judgment.” For the fourth title in the franchise, the reins were given over to series newcomer studio, The Coalition. Many fans were skeptical about the developers’ ability to produce an installment that would be true to the essence of the games, but it seems The Coalition will come through after all.
As Digital Times reports, the 4th installment to the “Gears of War” franchise captures what the studio calls the “Gears Essence” in practically every way imaginable. Everything, from the cover shooting mechanics to the co-op, has been polished to feel like players were fighting in the first game again. This is not at all a bad thing either.
The Coalition intentionally made “Gears of War 4” with the first game’s themes in mind in an attempt to not only impress the fans of the franchise but to also reignite the fire of interest that once surrounded the games. It also accomplishes the feat of showing those new to the series what the games are all about and to possibly convince them to give the title a try.
The game is set for release on October 11th, Time reports, and the studio released several trailers to give fans a glimpse of what they are in for. As for what gamers can expect from the game, it’s set 25 years after the events of the third installment.
Players who played “Gears of War 3” will remember that humans were losing and had to resort to desperate measures as a result. Although the enemy was defeated, the consequences become quickly apparent when playing “Gears of War 4.”
As for the characters, players will be taking on the role of the son of Marcus Fenix. With Marcus being the original series protagonist, it’s only to be expected that his scion would kick all kinds of monster behinds. He’ll need to do a lot of kicking as well, judging from the imposing threat that is “The Swarm.”
